Built for volume

Google positions this model for high-volume work: many drafts, many variations, images generated on demand. Each image is about one megapixel, quick to review and cheap to throw away.

Generate or edit with one model

Leave the reference slot empty for text-to-image, or attach up to 10 pictures and describe the change: swap a background, add an object, restyle a batch of photos, or combine elements from several images.

Every frame from 8:1 to 1:8

Choose from auto, 1:1, 2:3, 3:2, 3:4, 4:3, 4:5, 5:4, 9:16, 16:9, 21:9, 1:4, 4:1, 1:8, 8:1. The extreme formats suit website banners, long vertical posters and social strips; auto lets the model pick a frame from your references.

Legible text in images

Google says the model keeps legible in-image text, and Kie.ai's own tests show a chalkboard menu and a banner headline spelled as written. Still proofread every word before you publish.

How to use it

1

Open the generator with the model selected

Click the button on this page and the AI image generator opens with this model picked.

2

Write a prompt, optionally add references

Describe the image in up to 20,000 characters. Attach up to 10 pictures to edit or combine them.

3

Pick a ratio and generate

Choose the frame and press Generate. The image costs 1 credit and is saved to My Works.

What it is good for

Drafts and mood boards

Explore layouts, colour schemes and concepts in batches before you commit to a final render on a stronger model.

Quick photo edits

Change a background, add a prop or apply one style to several pictures. For pixel-precise cut-outs use the free background remover.

Images for slides and pages

Every slide or blog section can get its own illustration without a large bill. Wide 4:1 or 8:1 frames work as page headers.

Start frames for video

Make a first frame here, then animate it in the AI video generator with a model such as Kling 4.0.

Guide: when to choose the Lite model

What it is

The Lite model is Google's Gemini 3.1 Flash-Lite Image model (gemini-3.1-flash-lite-image), released on 30 June 2026. Google describes it as built for high-volume workflows, Nano Banana 2 as the generalist workhorse and Nano Banana Pro as the choice for complex professional work. Google also recommends it as the upgrade from the original Nano Banana.

Each request returns one JPEG of about one megapixel; there is no resolution or format setting. Google applies its invisible SynthID watermark to the output.

Lite, 2.1 or Pro: an honest comparison

On AgentReel this model, the original Nano Banana and Nano Banana 2.1 at 1K all cost the same per image, so price is not the reason to pick Lite. Pick it as the modern replacement for the original Nano Banana: on LMArena it scored 1250 for text-to-image against 1150 for the original (7 October 2026), and 1314 against 1293 for single-image edits (6 October 2026).

Choose Nano Banana 2.1 when you need 2K or 4K output or want to compare a stronger generalist at the same 1K price. Choose Nano Banana Pro for complex compositions, dense text and final campaign images where quality matters more than cost. Run the same prompt on two of them before you commit; the model overview lists every option.

Prompting and editing tips

Describe the subject, the setting, the style and any text in quotes. For edits, say exactly what should change and what should stay: "keep the person and the pose, replace the background with a sunny beach". Clean references give cleaner results.

Google notes the model can still struggle with small faces, exact spelling and fine details, and that masked edits, large lighting changes and multi-image blends may look unnatural. Kie.ai's test robot came back with two antennas instead of one, so check small details against your brief.

What it costs

Every image costs 1 credit, with or without reference images. Paid credits come from a plan or credit pack; the free credits of a new account cover Z-Image, video templates and Code to Video, not this model. The credits and pricing guide has the details.
